One of the most common things I hear about social media: “I never know what to post.”
And honestly? I get it!
Creating content consistently can feel overwhelming when you’re constantly putting pressure on yourself to come up with something original.
But here’s the thing:
The best content creators are consumers first.
Great Content Starts With Paying Attention
Every day you’re scrolling social media, watching videos, reading articles, listening to podcasts + interacting with brands.
Most people consume that content passively. Successful creators consume it actively.
Instead of just scrolling, they ask:
- Why did this stop me?
- Why did I watch the whole video?
- Why did I save this post?
- Why did I share it?
- What made me laugh?
- What made me learn something?
Those answers become future content ideas.
Create a “Content Radar”
One of the best habits you can develop is what I call a content radar.
Start paying attention to:
| Hooks | Questions | Comments |
| The first sentence or first three seconds that grab your attention. “Nobody talks about this…” “I wish someone had told me…” “Here’s the mistake I see most often…” | Pay attention to questions people ask. Customers, coworkers, friends, people in Facebook groups. Questions are content ideas hiding in plain sight. | People will literally tell you: What confused them. What they want to know. What they disagree with. What they need help with. |
Save First. Create Later.
One mistake I see a lot is trying to brainstorm ideas from scratch.
Instead, create a habit of collecting your inspo.
Keep:
- a Notes app folder
- a Google Doc
- a screenshot album
Whenever something catches your attention, save it.
Over time you’ll build a library of ideas to pull from.
Repurpose What Already Works
Not every content idea needs to be brand new.
In fact, some of your best future content is probably hiding in your existing content.
Turn:
- a blog into a Reel
- a Reel into a carousel
- a carousel into a newsletter
- a customer question into a post
- a testimonial into a story
One idea can become many pieces of content. I also have a blog all about that. 😇
Pay Attention Outside Social Media Too
Some of the best content ideas don’t come from social media at all.
They come from:
- pop culture
- conversations
- books
- podcasts
- customer interactions
- industry news
- everyday experiences
The more curious you are, the more ideas you’ll find!
Final Thoughts
The secret to never running out of content ideas isn’t being the most creative person in the room. It’s learning to pay attention!
The next great piece of content you create might come from a podcast you listened to, a comment you read, a question a customer asked, or a post that made you stop scrolling.
The best creators create + observe.
And when you learn to do both, you’ll never have to stare at a blank content calendar wondering what to post again! (sometimes at least 😉)
Until next time,
🤍 Cassidy
