Creating Timely Posts in Scattered Algorithm World.

Social media used to be simple.

You posted something, your audience saw it in chronological order + timing felt incredibly important. If you posted about something too late, it felt like you had missed your chance.

But social media doesn’t really work that way anymore.

Today’s algorithms are anything but chronological. Posts show up based on engagement, relevance + user behavior, often hours or even days after they’re published.

Which raises an interesting question:

What does it actually mean to create a “timely” post anymore?

In a scattered algorithm world, timing still matters, but strategy matters more.

Timely Doesn’t Always Mean Immediate

When we think about timely posts, we often think about holidays or big events.

Memorial Day is a good example.

Many brands fall into the habit of posting simple graphics that say something like:

“Happy Memorial Day!”

While the intention may be good, these posts often don’t do much for your audience:

They’re not overly engaging. They’re not super informative. They’re usually one of dozens of nearly identical posts people see that day.

The reality is that your audience is far more likely to connect with something that feels thoughtful + intentional.

Thoughtful Content Beats Placeholder Content

Instead of feeling pressured to post something just to acknowledge a holiday, think about how your brand can show up in a more meaningful way.

For example:

  1. If you’re a business that’s open over Memorial Day weekend, you might share how your team is celebrating.
  2. If your brand has ties to the military community, you might share a message that reflects that connection.
  3. If you’re a local business, you might highlight events happening in your community.

Content that tells a story or provides value is far more likely to resonate + more likely to be shared. That’s where algorithms come into play.

Because when content sparks conversation, saves, or shares, platforms are more likely to show it to more people, no matter when it was originally posted.

Plan What You Can

Even though algorithms aren’t chronological anymore, planning content still matters.

Having a content plan helps you think ahead about moments that matter to your audience: holidays, seasonal shifts, major events, or industry trends.

However, planning doesn’t mean every piece of content needs to be locked into a specific day.

Some posts are evergreen, meaning they can perform well anytime.

Tips, insights, behind-the-scenes moments + educational content often fall into this category.

These types of posts can be scheduled with flexibility because their value doesn’t always depend on a specific date.

Optimize the Content That Doesn’t Expire

When a post isn’t tied to a specific moment, that’s where optimization becomes even more important.

Think about things like:

  • Writing captions that encourage conversation
  • Creating visuals that stand out in a feed
  • Using clear messaging that connects with your audience

If your content is strong enough, it can gain traction whether someone sees it today or three days from now.

In a scattered algorithm world, quality often matters more than timing.

The Goal Isn’t Just Posting. It’s Resonating

Social media success rarely comes from simply checking a box that says “we posted today.”

It comes from creating content that people actually want to engage with.

Sometimes that content is tied to a moment. Sometimes it’s educational. Sometimes it’s entertaining.

But the best posts usually have one thing in common: they were created with intention.

Final Thoughts

Social media algorithms may not be chronological anymore, but thoughtful strategy still goes a long way.

Instead of rushing to post something just because a date on the calendar says you should, focus on creating content that reflects your brand, your audience + the moment in a meaningful way.

Because when your content resonates, timing becomes a lot less stressful + your posts have a much better chance of creating real momentum.

Around here, that momentum is what leads to the next W.

Until next time,

🤍 Cassidy
